Mini Tennis
What Is Mini Tennis?
It’s a progressive 3 stage programme that introduces and inspires children to play and stay in tennis. It follows the principles of the LTA Long Term Player Development Programme, which will allow players to play the game much sooner than has traditionally been the case.
The Programme is based on 3 stages: Red, Orange and Green. Appropriate equipment allows players to learn the game in a way that suits their physical size, emotional maturity and technical skills.
Red Zone
The red zone is for kids who have never played tennis or has a really basic understanding of tennis. They would be introduced to the basic of the game. And start developing the core skills of movement and coordination. They would use a bigger and softer tennis ball which will make it easier for them because the ball would travel a lot slower giving them a bit more time to prepare for the shot. The racket size should be between 17” – 23” which would be the perfect size in length and would be the perfect weight. Age group would be between 4 – 8 years old.
Orange Zone
The Orange zone is for kids who have a good understanding of the game and knows the basic groundstroke of tennis. They would learn new shots and techniques to help them rally on a bigger court. The type of balls they would use is an orange ball which is bigger than the original green one and would be a lot softer. The racket size would be between 23” – 25” which would be the perfect length and weight for them. The age group would be between 7 – 8 years old.
Green Zone
The Green zone is the final stage preparing for full court tennis. They should have a good understanding of the game. They will further improve their technique, tactics and movement around the court as well as fundamental athletic skills. There would be a lot of match play for their improvement. They would use the original green hard balls. And the racket size would be 25” – 26”. The age would be between 8 – 9 years old
